Maryland's Most Unique Vacation Tiny House Is Black-Owned

Just minutes outside of Washington, DC, is a Black-owned and Moroccan-themed tiny home that’s changing the luxury staycation game.

Tarus and Yolanda Nelson created the 320-square-foot sustainable tiny house accommodation known as the Moroccan Cottage in 2017.

The cottage was originally a shed that was breaking down.

Their inspiration to transform the space came from watching the tiny movement on HGTV. What they didn’t know at the time is how important it would be for people in the middle of a global pandemic.

“Summer 2020 was one of the best on record for us,” Yolanda told Travel Noire. “We have so much here on-site for people who were looking for a change during the lockdown.”

When you step inside, you will immediately feel the Bohemian vibes. It’s a creative space that includes a kitchen, a living room, a pool, and more.

“Once you experience our home, you will wish you had more vacation time,” said Yolanda.

It’s located outside of another five-bedroom vacation home the couple manages under their brand, The Nelson Manor.

Even though they have changed their home into a vacation rental, they want people to have a welcoming and loving experience.
